Gaining Accreditation

Being able to gain an accreditation in recognition of  your time spent supporting others sets our training courses apart.

Participants on the Reading Leaders Secondary, Reading Mentors and School Supported Reading Mentor courses are able to achieve a level 2 nationally recognised accreditation. The accreditation is awarded by Certa UK in ‘Supporting Reading Skills’.

Reading Matters was externally verified by Certa in June 2016 and once again we were awarded their best rating for a training provision. As a centre, we accepted 282 training portfolios for submission in May 2016, which was our highest ever number. The following comment was made about our accredited Reading Leaders training in the report:

“It was a pleasure to see some of the excellent work done by this centre, there are clear educational benefits to be had for the students who participate in the scheme.”

During a Reading Matters’ training day we will clearly explain what is required in order to gain the accreditation.

Our professional tutor will guide you through the seven assessment tasks in the portfolio and ensure you understand how to fill the reading session log sheets in correctly. As further evidence of understanding of how to make a reading partnership work, 10 completed log sheets are needed to finish the training.

Portfolios need to demonstrate that the learner has achieved the following objectives;

  • Understood how to plan and participate in a one-to-one reading partnership
  • Understood how to use a range of strategies to support readers

Training portfolios are accepted by Reading Matters for marking at two points during the year; May and December. The next date for portfolio submission is the 19th of May 2017 and following that it will be the 8th of December 2017.
