Social Mission and Values

Reading Matters’ social mission is:

Supporting children, young people and adults to reach their potential by becoming confident and enthusiastic readers.

Our core values as an organisation are;

  • Working with professionalism, enthusiasm and integrity
  • Building and developing a staff and volunteer team that is dedicated to supporting young people
  • Being there for each other to overcome challenges and to celebrate and share in our successes and achievements

  • Creating a team environment that values the skills, experiences and opinions of others
  • Being empathetic and understanding to the individual needs of the young people it works with
  • Developing mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships with others to achieve shared goals

  • Creating a team culture that promotes creativity and the development of new ideas
  • Being about “more than reading” and opening the door to new opportunities for the young people it supports
  • Showing our passion and enjoyment for the work it does so that others want to join Reading Matters in reaching its social mission

  • Enjoying the journey it makes with young people and their happiness when they reach new goals
  • Recognising that good humour and fun can overcome challenges and barriers in ways that conflict cannot
  • Feeling fulfilled and rewarded in remembering the wonderful impact its work has on improving the lives of young people
