Our specially trained Reading Mentors can dramatically improve the reading skills and confidence of children, young people and adults.
“The Reading Mentor programme made a big difference to reading attitudes and abilities in our school. It’s marvellous!“. School Coordinator.
Our dedicated Reading Mentors are available to work with children, young people and adults in schools and other centres across Yorkshire.
One to one targeted, personal support from a Reading Mentor enables struggling readers to catch up quickly. Typically, after a 10 week period of intervention (2 x 30 minute sessions per week), reading age will improve by 15 months, and in many cases by much more.
Reading Matters’ Reading Mentors are;
- Carefully selected after an interview and reference checks
- Fully DBS checked
- Properly trained to understand and help overcome the issues faced by a struggling reader
- Given support and supervision from our dedicated Reading Mentor Manager
- Offered termly training events and sent ongoing information
To invest in a Reading Mentor for your school or other setting costs just £220 per term or £627 annually. Each mentor will support two children per school term, or six children over the full year.
This is a contribution of around 2/3 towards the full costs of this service. Reading Matters charitable fundraising covers the remainder.
We also deliver expert training with accreditation to those working as reading mentors for schools and other organisations (School Supported Reading Mentors). This costs £95 per person with a minimum course cost of £995.
